Turbo Jam Maximum Results is a workout program created to be fun. This program combines kickboxing, capoeira, and dance to form a funky workout that will leave you sweating and wanting more. Maybe it’s the music, the moves, or instructor Chalene Johnson’s infectious enthusiasm that makes it so great. Maybe it’s a combination of all these things that makes you want to toss aside all other workout DVDs in favor of Turbo Jam.
Turbo Jam puts to use 11 elite moves designed by Turbo Jam creator Chalene Johnson. These moves are the Turbo Tuck, Pump, Zig/Zag, Strike, Twist, Row, “W”, 7 Step, Shake and Shed, Capoeira Step, and Wheel. The Turbo Tuck is the foundation of many of the Turbo Jam moves. The purpose of the Turbo Tuck is to engage the abs throughout the workout. Although some have trouble maintaining the Turbo Tuck through the duration of the workout, the results are worth the work it takes to master this move. But it’s not just the moves that make Turbo Jam addictive.
Chalene goes out of her way to make the music fun. Some of the songs are straight off the pop charts. Others are a bit more obscure. All will get stuck in your head. The music is meant to make you want to move. It’s the kind of music that you’ll catch yourself humming to all day long. Some even say that they dream about Turbo Jam.
The combination of moves in Turbo Jam makes it fun too. Chalene encourages you to work out the way that is comfortable for you. For some this will entail making the workout a bit funkier with the fluid movement from dance. For others, it will mean focusing on technique to get the most benefit from each movement. With moves inspired by kickboxing, dance, and the Brazilian martial arts Turbo Jam has a little something for everyone.
As with any
home workout program, many people are concerned that Turbo Jam will get boring after awhile, no matter how fun it is now. There are several Turbo Jam packages available beyond the initial Maximum Results set that introduces people to Turbo Jam. The Maximum Results package includes such goodies as the 20-minute workout, Turbo Sculpt, Ab Jam, and Cardio Party 1. The bonus workout, Punch Kick Jam, adds a lot of variety because it includes a segment of capoeira, a Turbo Jam fan favorite. Workouts in other packages include Cardio Party 2, Cardio Party 3, Cardio Party Remix, Kickin Core, Total Body Blast, Low Body Jam, 3T, Booty Sculpt, and Fat Blaster. Chalene has produced a good mix of strength and cardio workouts to consistently burn fat and build muscle.
Even though most people who try Turbo Jam fall totally in love with it, there are some who don’t understand all the hype. Some people find Chalene’s enthusiasm a bit overwhelming to the point of considering her annoying. Others find the moves a bit too jarring for the joints even when they follow the low impact variation of the workouts. Not every workout is perfect for everybody. Still, Turbo Jam comes close.
